Superjet 100 (SSJ100) granted reduced power takeoff certification

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co. (SCAC) has been granted a Supplemental Type Certificate for its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) to perform reduced thrust takeoff.

Reduced thrust takeoff mode on SSJ100 aircraft can be used at airports with runway exceeding 2,000 meters in length. It also reduces engine load and extends engine lifetime, minimizing aircraft maintenance costs.

According to SCAC, during the certification program, tests were conducted on prototype 95003 at Ramenskoye aerodrome. During the tests, 22 flights with different levels of thrust were performed.

In July, Russia’s Interstate Aviation Committee certified the SSJ100 to operate on narrow, 30-meter wide runways, increasing the number of possible destinations as part of current ground air transport infrastructure.

In January, Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said it would invest RUB24 billion ($708.6 million) in the SSJ100 program in 2014 to 2019.
