Tulsa International Airport is adding nonstop flights to Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Las Vegas via Allegiant, local and airport officials announced Tuesday.
Service to Las Vegas via McCarren International Airport begins April 8 and will be year-round. One way Fares begin at $65, according to the air carrier. The service will run three times each week.
Service to Tampa Bay Florida via St Pete-Clearwater International Airport and Los Angeles via LAX will be seasonal. Service to both destinations will run two times each week.
Seasonal Service to Tampa Bay will run May 7 through Aug 18 and oneway fares begin at $80.
Seasonal service to Los Angeles runs June 5 through Aug 18 and fares start at $81 one way. Prior to Tuesday's announcement Tulsa International Airport had non-stop flights to 16 cities.
Allegiant spokeswoman Laura Billiter said the air carrier decided to add the services after the strong performance of the air carrier's nonstop flight between Tulsa and Orlando. That service began in 2013.
The air carrier chose the new destinations based on the popularity nonstop service to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Tamp Bay has had in other markets, she said.
"People love traveling to these destinations, and we're very happy to be providing these destinations for Tulsa travelers," Billiter said.
Introductory airfares are limited and valid for flights booked on Allegiant's website through January 19. The promo code WELCOME40 offers an extra $40 discount on an air+hotel vacation package.
Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett Jr. spoke at the press conference Tuesday morning, remarking on the increased competitiveness new nonstop destinations give to the Tulsa economy.
When businesses look at locating in the Tulsa area one of the primary aspects they consider is connectivity to major cities, he said.
"This helps make our position that much stronger," Bartlett said referring to the new destinations.
The service will also connect people from those cities withTulsa, Bartlett said, referencing Tulsa's ranking by the New York Times as a top world destination.
"They are recognizing the significance of our great city and Allegiant is recognizing that as well," Bartlett said.
Tulsa International Airport is in the midst of a "Fly Tulsa" campaign aimed at getting more travelers to begin trips there.
