LAX ranked one of the worst airports in the United States

Well this is not very good news for our hometown SoCal airport!!!

Los Angeles International Airport is the ninth worst airport in the United States, according to a new study by a leading travel news website.

ThePointsGuy.com, which has some 3.4 million unique monthly visitors, ranked the country’s best and worst airports by analyzing timeliness, accessibility and amenities — in that order.

LAX was behind Denver International Airport and ahead of Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on the worst list, which was topped by New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Phoenix Sky Harbor International was ranked the best airport in the country.

According to the website, the study used flight delay and cancellation figures from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, security checkpoint wait time data from market research firm J.D. Power & Associates, and Google Maps to analyze accessibility for both drivers and public transit users. For amenities, the website considered parking fees, Wi-Fi availability and the number of restaurants and lounges.

LAX came in 22nd for the 30 busiest airports in the country.

The airport has begun a $14 billion modernization project, a major component of which is a $5 billion transit overhaul that will revolutionize the way up to 79 million passengers will enter and exit LAX each year.

Officials recently unveiled a revamped Terminal 6 with 21 new shops and restaurants, and a $148.5 million Terminal 4 connector building to the Tom Bradley International Terminal to cut down on security wait times for passengers catching flights between terminals.
